Chinese Culture Meets Sri Lankan Students

An Inspiring Cultural Exchange Between China and Sri Lanka

A morning filled with culture, creativity, friendship and learning unfolded at Lyceum International School – Nugegoda, as Lyceumers from Kurunegala, Anuradhapura and Nugegoda came together for a special cultural exchange with China.

Held with the support of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka and Lumbini Confucius Classroom, the programme brought Chinese culture to life through engaging activities led by delegates from Yunnan Art Universities.

From traditional Chinese dance and martial arts to calligraphy, painting and vocal music, students had the opportunity to learn, participate and experience Chinese culture first-hand. A display of Chinese cultural artefacts added another fascinating dimension to the experience.

The occasion was honoured by Ms. Ji Lili, Counsellor and Head of the Cultural Section of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka, as Chief Guest, and Dr. Wang Fei, Director of the Lumbini Confucius Classroom, together with representatives of the Embassy, Sino-Sri Education Association, China Harbour, Lyceum management, principals, teachers and the Yunnan Art Universities delegation.

Educational materials were also donated to support the students’ learning journey, reflecting the shared commitment to creating opportunities that go beyond a single event.

More than a cultural programme, this was an opportunity for our students to connect, explore, ask questions, create and discover a world beyond the classroom — showing how learning a language can open the door to a new culture and new possibilities.

A meaningful step towards building stronger educational and cultural connections between Sri Lanka and China.

Where cultures meet, young minds connect.
