Sri Lanka–China Society Celebrates 45 Years, Elects New Leadership
The Sri Lanka China Society (SLCS), a premier civil society organization officially recognized by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, held its 41st Annual General Meeting (AGM) on July 30, 2026, in Colombo, electing its new Executive Committee and office-bearers for the 2026/2027 administrative term.
Mr. Jinith De Silva was elected President, continuing to lead the Society’s initiatives in fostering people-to-people diplomacy and cultural relations between Sri Lanka and China.

The team is supported by an executive committee comprising 21 members representing diverse professional backgrounds.
45 Years of Goodwill and Humanitarian Impact
Founded in 1981 by a group of distinguished Sri Lankan citizens, the SLCS celebrates its landmark 45th anniversary this year. Over four and a half decades, the Society has served as a vital bridge between the two nations, promoting mutual understanding through cultural exchanges, academic interactions, and provincial partnership programs across China, extending to sectors such as Sri Lanka’s tea plantation industry.
Leveraging its strong partnerships with Chinese counterpart organizations, provincial friendship associations, and foundations, the Society has directed significant aid toward underprivileged communities and schoolchildren across Sri Lanka. To date, the SLCS has awarded nearly 2,000 scholarships to deserving students, alongside wide-ranging donations of educational materials, sports equipment, and humanitarian aid.
Grand Celebration Scheduled for September 23 at BMICH
To commemorate its 45th anniversary alongside the 77th National Day of the People’s Republic of China, the Sri Lanka–China Society will host a grand anniversary event at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Colombo, on September 23, 2026. The gala gathering will bring together senior diplomats, academics, business leaders, and representatives from both Sri Lanka and China to celebrate decades of historic friendship and bilateral cooperation.
